The Institute of South-South Cooperation and Development at Peking University (ISSCAD) in collaboration with the Chinese Ministry of Commerce held a “Leadership Program on National Development” from May 30 to June 6, 2016.
This 8-day Executive Educational Program brought together a unique and diverse group of highly-accomplished government officials and public-sector professionals from 13 developing countries, i.e., Ethiopia, Jamaica, Liberia, Malawi, Mauritius, Nepal, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Sudan, Tajikistan, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe. They came to immerse themselves in China with Chinese scholars, officials, and business leaders from both the state-owned and private sectors. In a vibrant learning atmosphere that encouraged open inquiry and dialogue, the program featured a mix of both on-campus seminars and off-campus workshops with a focus on green urbanization and green industrial development.
Chinese scholars and practitioners -- LIN Yifu, Professor and Dean of ISSCAD; YAO Yang, Professor and Executive Dean of ISSCAD; FU Jun, Professor and Academic Dean of ISSCAD; LIU Mingzhe, Vice President of the Academy for International Business Officials (AIBO) of the Chinese Ministry of Commerce -- shared their knowledge and views on various aspects of the growth story of China during the era of reforms and opening up to the rest of the world. On the cultural and historical side, many participants also managed to find time to visit the Chinese Great Wall, the Imperial Forbidden City, and the daily life of common people in Beijing. Some also tried their hands at the Chinese traditional “Taiji boxing” and found it “relaxing and fun”.
