On July 12, 2016, Mr. Marco Lambertini, Director General of World Wildlife Fund (WWF) visited the Institute of South-South Cooperation and Development at Peking University (ISSCAD) . Professor FU Jun, Academic Dean of ISSCAD, hosted the meeting.

WWF is a global-scale conservation NGO that works in 100 countries and consists of nearly 5 million members worldwide. It aims to protect natural areas and wild populations, to minimize pollution, and to promote efficient, sustainable use of natural resources. Mr. Marco Lambertini said WWF is the first NGO working in China, and it is an entirely country driven organization which helps to guarantee people and natural resources are taken into consideration during economy development. WWF would like to collaborate with ISSCAD in promoting eco civilization and sustainable development for developing countries through South-South cooperation.

Professor FU said that WWF’s philosophy goes along with ISSCAD’s. Looking back at industrialization, we mankind have learnt that growth has to be sensitive to mother nature; we must live in harmony with it. ISSCAD is a new institute, and is willing to broaden cooperation with WWF. The two parties have agreed to develop a series of ISSCAD-WWF case studies in the near future, and with a focus on climate change and environmental protection.
